La Limousine 2008

12 06 2008

This was the 3rd year that I have taken part in the local cyclosportive La limousine . A couple of years backit was voted in the top 10 cyclosportives in France. For me it is a must in the annual calender, considering it starts no further than 45 km from chez nous!

There are 3 route options to choose between and as before I entered the longest which is named after the cyclist Andre Dufraisse. This relatively unknown local legend was an exceptional athlete in his day and must have one of the richest set of cycling palmeres todate. The route passes through the village where he was born and follows some of the roads he trained on.

Well how did i do? The good news I was back before Steve ‘its all about the bike’ Bennett but the bad news I took a short route home after suffering severe cramp half way round!

For me it was no real surprise - my training had been severely compromised during the last month for one reason or another and I knew it was going to be hard. However after the success of La Jacques Bossis last month I was still optimistic about completing and finishing within the gold catagory which I had set as one of my goals when I entered so many months ago.

Alas, as the old saying goes ‘you only get out what you put in’ and prior to this I had not commited the time. So now I back to getting some solid base miles in and some interval training and hopefully by the end of June I will be fighting fit once more, allez!
